An unpopular opinion?

I can’t stand Love Hina.

I’ve never watched the show, but from what I’ve seen it’s the most misandric anime in history.

I mean, what’s so funny about a teenage boy being victimized for things that usually aren’t his fault? I’m telling you, if the genders were reversed, they’d all be arrested. But NO! Double Standards are in effect here, people!

I’m sick of this mindset of “depicting girls as strong by having them constantly beat the male main character” that’s run rampant in anime for so long. It’s not funny. It’s miserable.

This is also why I can’t stand Sakura from Naruto. She doesn’t deserve him. Hinata liked Naruto from the beginning, SHE deserves Naruto.

And speaking of Sakuras, Sakura Ogami from Dangan Ronpa. She’s universally acknowledged as strong, but does she ever hit Naegi for some slapstick reason? NO! (Although it may have to do with the fact that if she hit him, he die on the spot) Ogami is an EXTREMELY strong female character, but she doesn’t have to resort to a “comedy act” to show it.

I like One Piece, and I acknowledge that Nami can come off of this as well. But there’s no romance in One Piece, or any serious one for that matter. When Nami hits Luffy, it’s to keep him in line, not for the sake of hitting him. This is why Nami > Sakura.

But for you Sakura fans out there I will say this:

Sakura > Naru Cutthroat Bitch.

I agree 100% with you about the double standards. There are things that women can get away with in fiction that men would never be able to.

Another example would be Kagome from Inuyasha always slamming his face into the ground for no reason. Now, when he was seriously trying to kill her and she did it, it was actually funny, but doing it whenever he says something she dislikes is cruel and immature. Sango’s hitting of Mirouku didn’t bother me because he never learned to keep his hands to himself and kept groping her despite knowing how she would react, and also, you know, ‘cause it was wrong to do.

One thing I notice about poorly-written 'strong female characters' is a lack of restraint and class. What I mean by that is that they are just so easily set-off and ready to give disproportionate retribution. In my opinion, if someone is going to hurt (or *purposely* grope) you, you can hit them. If someone makes a dumb joke, says something rude/degrading to you, or otherwise just really annoys you, then it is NOT OKAY to hit them!
Female characters who just slap people around for the littlest thing show a lack of maturity.
There are cases where a guy might just say something creepy or crude, but still, it shows just how much more class you have to resist violence.
Having a character respond to a rude person by giving a calm but scathingly-witty retort shows the character is strong of mind and in control. –I guess violence is just so much easier to write/draw.
I’m kind of wondering if it really is the unpopular opinion? Are there people out there who enjoy that type of ‘comedy’?

I also wonder if shows like Love Hina aren’t just supposed to be fantasies about overbearing and violent hot chicks that masochistic guys can insert themselves into. (Pun unintended)
